Greek Athanasios Kargatzidis grew up in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. He discovered his passion for great food at an early age and later studied at the renowned Dubrulle Culinary Institute in Vancouver. He then travelled all over the world, cooking in multiple countries, researching new techniques and thus developed his very own culinary signature. Today, he loves and experiences modern fusion cuisine. Like almost no other, Kargatzidis combines a wide variety of ingredients and cooking techniques. Taste and texture of the products are paramount for him, and he always completely adapts himself to the place where he is cooking. He has served Japanese dishes, had success with a Middle Eastern barbecue and as a baker. As co-owner, Kargatzidis finally opened the “Baron” in Beirut, considered one of the best restaurants in all of Lebanon, where popular classics are reinterpreted and served with a Mediterranean touch. This is well received: in 2022, “Baron” was ranked twelfth in the “Middle East & North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants” and first in the “Middle East & North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants Lebanon”. From October 2021 to April 2022, “Baron” had a pop-up location at EXPO 2020 in Dubai, where Master Chef Kargatzidis impressed visitors with his creative dishes.
