Guest chef Fredrik Berselius, originally from Stockholm, has spent most of his culinary career in New York. He has delighted gourmets and critics alike with a cuisine that combines his love of nature with the urban influences of this vibrant US metropolis. In 2012, Frederik Berselius opened his restaurant Aska, Swedish for ‘ashes’, in Brooklyn. The top chef received much praise right from the start. Within a year, Aska had earned its first Michelin star and was named one of the ten best new restaurants in America by Bon Appetit magazine. In 2016, Aska moved to a restored 1860s warehouse near the Williamsburg Bridge, with a dining room, a basement bar and its own garden. With just ten tables overlooking the open kitchen, guests are now served a multi-course menu each evening that combines ingredients from the north-eastern US with Berselius’s Scandinavian roots. It’s a unique culinary experience, and one for which Frederik Berselius was once again quickly rewarded. Just a few months after reopening, Aska was one of only ten restaurants in New York to be awarded a second Michelin star.
