According to its philosophy, the St. Moritz Gourmet Festival is a platform for a creative and considerate exchange between international master chefs. The exceptionally intense teamwork of the guest master chefs with the partner hotels' resident master chefs results in productive ideas that benefit the chefs' gourmet fans throughout the world.

Nevertheless, it is not only the promotion of the established master chefs that is of major importance to the festival managers, but also the support for the region's young cookery generation! For this reason, a competition for all cookery apprentices in their third year of training in the Engadine, will be organized for the first time from 16th to 18th January 2012. All the participants in the «Young Engadine Talents» competition, headed by Bernd Ackermann, master chef of the Suvretta House in St. Moritz, will be given the same task, i.e. to produce two gourmet dishes with a basket of goods, inspired by the motto «Fantasy and creativity without limits». The jury will be made up of Bernd Ackermann, Martin Scherer, manager of the Hotel Schweizerhof St. Moritz, and master chef Roland Jöri (two Michelin stars, 18 GaultMillau points). The jury's criteria of assessment will be based on those of the canton's final exams, which also makes participation in the competition an excellent preparation for the exams!

The winner of the first prize can look forward to a practical training period with one of the master chefs of the St. Moritz Gourmet Festival 2012. The presentation ceremony will take place on 3rd February 2012, in front of a chosen audience during the «Great Valser Gourmet Final» on Corviglia.
